Clowning Performance and Workshops
In addition to workshops, Lumino offers a number of humourous, short and provocative performance pieces. Designed to entertain and spark discussion of psychological topics including aging, death, vanity and obligation, these vignettes are ideal as teaching tools for educational conferences of all kinds.
Pox and Vendetta (Patricia Rockman and Elaine Smookler) incorporate elements from North American and European Clown, Bouffon, Western Medicine and Magic Realism. Drawing from universal psychological themes their work is based on the awareness that human beings are fragile creatures and that life is impermanent.

Pox and Vendetta produced their first full length show, Bondage to critical acclaim at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2008. Their innovative style invites the viewer to humourously connect with a heightened version of inescapable life events, and is accessible to a multi-lingual audience, transcending culture and gender.
Bondage consists of five deliciously dark tales. These highly educational pieces are also available as individual perfomances or teaching tools for mental health workshops or conferences.
Fee: Negotiable
Bondage is a twisted take on the emotional ties that bind. Original music, a cleverly invented language and carefully crafted costuming and set, help create a darkly surreal world.
Pox creates the world (You Tube Link) and accidentally sets the painful cycle of birth to death in motion. Vendetta is born and immediately finds herself in bondage. Together they travel through life; Vendetta unable to escape the consequences of her desires and vanity, and Pox who tries to both control and teach Vendetta some of life's more difficult lessons.
Highly Recommended — The Toronto Star"...unsettling and compelling...jaw-dropping in its audacity and shock value. Definitely not for youngsters!"
NNNN — Now
"...engaging, amusing, sophisticated and spectacularly costumed."
4 out of 5 — Indyish.com
"...the clownery of Patricia Rockman and Elaine Smookler (was) fantastic...They owned their audience."

- I saw Bondage during the Fringe, and wanted to tell you how astonishing it was. The language you invented, in particular, amazed and, for some reason (perhaps because it speaks to another level of our being, our ongoingness and oneness but also somehow our brokenness), moved me. Brava!
